Among the people of the Niger-Delta, they have what I will call a 'proverbial title' . During a ceremony the spokesperson, usually a man will ask for your proverbial title. When the proverbial title is announced, the owner of the proverbial title will respond with a fitting comment of his own.
I was in a marriage ceremony recently when a man was ask for his own proverbial title.
His proverbial title is "snake excreta". "Snake Excreta!", the spokesperson hailed. And the man responded, "it is difficult to find in the bush".
Another one is, "the eye of a fish" the respondent will say, "it's on the head of the fish", yet another one, "the hands of those shouting 'Hallelujah'", and the response is, "they are always going up"
If you are from the Niger Delta and this is also a part of your tradition, feel free to post your proverbial title or the ones you heard of in the comments section.
‘’The ones that are closed’’ and the response is ‘’They will be apart’’ vice - versa
